In this episode of The Kicker, Carolina Public Press News and Community Partnerships Manager Stephanie Carson talks with Bill Lamb, board chair of Friends of Residents in Long Term Care, an advocacy organization who works on behalf of residents of nursing homes, adult care homes, retirement communities and more.
In this episode we discuss challenges of long-term care at a time when a highly contagious disease is present in our communities. Specifically, we explore how family members and friends can advocate for a loved one in a congregate living facility, and what are possible warning signs that the care may not be adequate for the current climate. This follows a series of reporting on long-term care from Carolina Public Press, where the organization has pushed the state for numbers of COVID-19 positive cases in congregate settings, specifically nursing homes across North Carolina.
