“The end result: James E. “Jim” Nance, from Albemarle, a former dealer and president of Confederate Motors Inc., who had been named a governor Wednesday, was out of the running.
The House actually elected George A. Sywassink Jr., a business executive from Charlotte, who also serves on the Board of Directors for the Appalachian State University Foundation.”

RALEIGH – The N.C. House of Representatives voted Wednesday to fill eight appointments to the UNC Board of Governors. The following individuals have been appointed by the House for four-year terms beginning July 1, 2013:
Rodney Hood, from Durham, is the director of National Partnerships at JP Morgan Chase and Company. He was appointed by President Bush as vice chairman at the National Credit Union Administration. He graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill in 1989 and Kenan Flagler School of Business at UNC 1993 in the executive education program.
Henry Williams Hinton, from Greenville, N.C., is president and general manager of Inner Banks Media, LLC in Greenville. Inner Banks Media owns and operates four FM radio stations in Eastern North Carolina. He is the former president of the N.C. Association of Broadcasters. He graduated from Eastern Carolina University in 1976, where started his career at the ECU campus radio station.
W.G. Champion Mitchell, from New Bern, is a retired attorney and CEO. In 2006, he won a “Stevie” as Best Turnaround Executive in America. He earned his bachelor’s and law degrees from UNC-Chapel Hill. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War and in the Navy Reserves for a decade after. He served on the President’s Policy Advisory Committee on Trade Policy and Negotiations for President George H.W. Bush and President Bill Clinton.
Former Rep. Laura I. Wiley, from High Point, was a member of the House of Representatives from 2005-2011. She served on the House Appropriations Committee, including the Appropriations Subcommittee on Education. She also served on various other committees, including Judiciary, Mental Health and Education. She is a former member of the High Point City Council.
R. Doyle Parrish, from Raleigh, is the CEO of Summit Hospitality Group, which owns and manages 16 hotels. He is the past chair and board member of the N.C. Travel and Tourism Coalition. He graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill and Wake Forest Babcock School of Business Management.
Roger Aiken, from Alexander, N.C., is currently employed by Wells Fargo Advisors in Asheville. From 2004-2008, he was a member of the N.C. School Boards Association and currently authors a bi-weekly op-ed column for the Asheville Citizen-Times. He graduated from Appalachian State University in 1981.
Dr. Joan Templeton Perry, from Kinston, graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill and UNC’s Medical School. She is a licensed pediatrician and former Morehead Scholar, senior class president and Medical School class president. She is the mother of five sons.

He is a board of trustees member of Stanly Community College and serves on the board of directors of the North Carolina Housing Finance Agency. He is a graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill.
“Today the House appointed eight highly-qualified individuals to help lead the UNC system for the next four years,” said House Speaker Thom Tillis (R-Mecklenburg). “I am confident in their abilities to perform their duties, and I commend their willingness to serve the public in this capacity.”
Every two years, the General Assembly selects 16 individuals in each chamber to serve on the 32-member Board of Governors.
