ASHEVILLE — The funeral service for Asheville Police Department Senior Police Officer Rob Bingaman will take place at Biltmore Baptist Church, located at 35 Clayton Road in Arden, today (Monday, Nov. 4, 2013) at 10 a.m.

The escort route is as follows:  Clayton Road to Long Shoals to I-26 West to I-40 East to exit 59. The funeral procession will exit left to US 70 East to Grovestone Road to Old US 70 to WNC State Veteran’s Cemetery.

Heavy traffic is expected before and especially after the service. The public is asked to plan accordingly.

Intersections will be blocked during the escort to the cemetery and significant traffic delays are expected between 11 a.m. and noon. Members of the public wishing to pay tribute to SPO Bingaman may do so in safe areas.

The family has respectfully requested that no photographs or video be taken at the church. The family has also requested that the media not solicit interviews or comments from anyone in attendance at the funeral or interment at the cemetery.

APD will create a media area at both Biltmore Baptist Church and the WNC State Veteran’s Cemetery at the request of the family.

The Asheville Police Department will be assisted by the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office to ensure that all Asheville Police Department personnel are relieved of duty, allowing all members of the department to pay respects to their fallen friend, brother and colleague.
