In addition to many of Western North Carolina’s summer camps offering need-based “camperships,” the Henderson County Young Leaders program, Transylvania County’s Kids in Camps program and the Raleigh-based Scott-Free nonprofit help pay for summer camp for local kids in need.

Moffitt proposal to change Buncombe County Commission districting and elections expected to become law
State Sen. Martin Nesbitt, D-Buncombe, said “everybody in Buncombe County” is against the change and that Rep. Tim D. Moffitt, R-Buncombe, has “traumatized our county” with the proposal. But Moffitt said that “by in large” he hears from people supporting the bill and there’s only “a small group of people” working against it.
